I always wondered when i become a good player? Do i have to read more books or even go to a pokerclass? What would you say? I play about 20 - 50 hours a week and develop an eye for a good hand but I just can't be asked to learn the words all the pro's use like pre flop raise,......... To me poker is fun and should I make it serious fun or even just serious. O.K. I would like to know these words just to know what the others are talking about. To judge a good or bad hand, I don't need these words, or do I?

The poker terms aren't so important as long as you understand the actions they are named for. As far as becoming a great player goes I'd say it's two things really. One is learning fundamentals of playing poker. Reading some poker books can help you with that for sure. You can also learn some of that by watching it on TV if it catches your interest enough to do so (I'd imagine there's at least a few players out there who don't watch it). The other factor to becoming a good player is learning the stuff that you can't find in books. Learning how to read players at the table for example. Actual playing is where you'll improve those skills.

Poker is mostly about the luck of the draw. No one should bother learning any "fundamental rules" to follow when playing. Just play what feels right and fold whatever doesn't. The reason I don't win much isn't because I don't know how to play but because everyone else just gets lucky as hell against me.

mostly i think it comes down to luck of the cards that come out. although you need a strategy to play, whether it be tight or loose or somewhere in between. eratic style of play can work for a little while, but ultimately it will bring you undone. thats my opinion.
