Veldhuis Says Fight With ElkY Bertrand Grospellier is Still On

Though poker fans have spent more than two years waiting for a kickboxing match between Lex Veldhuis and Bertrand Grospellier, Veldhuis is saying that the fight is still going to happen and that the fight is only a week away.

On November 22, the two Team PokerStars pros will do battle for five three minute rounds. The kickboxing match has some rules, such as making kicks to the groin, headbutts, and elbows illegal, while fighters are still permitted to do spinning kicks and punches. The most important stipulation of the match is that a winner will only be declared if a participant is knocked out or quits, otherwise the match will end in a draw.

On his blog, Veldhuis takes a rather confident approach to his match as he says that ElkY's "coordination seems a bit bad" and that he doesn't think he is a "natural athlete." Veldhuis, despite claiming that he is confident he will win, notes that ElkY is in better shape and that the match is fairly even.

"I am more athletic and I have better coordination, plus some experience in fights," Veldhuis writes. "ElkY is in better shape and has been working out more consistently, going on special training camps and putting in a lot of hours.

Veldhuis says that the destination of the event will be Marbella, Spain where a TV poker show is being recorded and that, "This sounded really good and I'm at a point where I just want to get it over with. So we set the date on 22nd of November, a week from now."

ElkY seems to have put in more work than Veldhuis, while that latter pro seems to be more naturally gifted. That said, who do you expect to win the fight?

I bet Veldhuis will win, but with the rules they have in place I can almost guarantee a draw. They're not going to go out there and try to punish each other and win by knockout, and I doubt either of them have knockout power anyway. I want to see the tale of the tape.
