Poker Animals - The 5 catagories

When playing poker, you need to be observant and take notes of your opponents, study your opponents and see how they play. On most online poker rooms you can write notes on players avatars, wich will be saved and next time you play against him you know wich kinda player he is.

This are the animals you will meet on the poker tables, and instead of taking notes as "..he played 72 suited, calling hands, raises all the time" and so on, you can in other easier way do this, by writing one of the Hellmuths poker animals. This is so much more simplier and effective choise and saves you time when sitting on multiple tables.

-Hellmuth classifies poker players in 5 general catagories, mouse, jackal, elephant, lion and eagle-

The Mouse

  • Ultra conservative playera048-cartoon-mouse-clip-art.jpg picture by RaBBiiTGiiRL
  • Playes Hellmuths top 10 starting hands
  • They bet but rerely raises or reraises a bet
  • Almost never bluffs
  • When they raise or reraise they have a unbeatable hand
  • The weakness, they are simply too predictable
  • Other name for the mouse is "Rock"
  • They make more money than they lose, especially in low limit games

The JackalJackal.png picture by RaBBiiTGiiRL

  • Loose player
  • Playes a lot of cards
  • Bets and rerases often
  • Their chip stack is like a roller coaster ride
  • Easy player to get cash off
  • Bluffs with trash often

The Elephantcubs_elephant.jpg picture by RaBBiiTGiiRL

  • "Calling station"
  • Playes low limit games
  • Loose starting hands selection
  • Playes a lot of pots
  • Calls his hand to the river even if hes beaten
  • Dont try to bluff the elephant, but if you have good cards, you will get good paid
  • Easy player to get cash off

The Lion

  • Playes good starting hands
  • Takes risks
  • Playes aggressive poker
  • Bluffs in an advantageous position
  • An excellent poker player
  • Makes his living taking chips from the mouse, elephant and jackdal

The Eagle

  • A character that most of us will never reach or even play against
  • One of the top 100 players in the world
  • Studied the poker for years
  • You can see the eagles in big poker events

-By making notes of the player - pays you off next time you play him-

Hellmuth's Top 10 in low limit games:

  1. A-A
  2. K-K
  3. Q-Q
  4. A-K suited
  5. J-J
  6. 10-10
  7. 9-9
  8. 8-8
  9. A-Q suited
  10. 7-7

He suggest that the poker player can make lots of money in low limit poker, by waiting on these cards and playing them aggressively. And as you build your bankroll and your confidence, you can increase your starting hands requirements.
