Blog PostCuriosity killsI want to spinn a little more on Dingus very good blog about bankroll management. Also I want to thank Payday for this idea. I was not sure about what I was going to write about, especially after my flop from yesterday. heh.. but as I said in one of my comments, can be on top all the time. hehe..
Back to the subject...Early in my poker career I didn't know anything about bankroll management or anything about poker as you already know. As many I thought, if I play on tables with higher stakes I will get more money faster. To be honest I found out pretty fast that it was not that easy. Because of I was a combination of a fish and a donkey at the same time I lost my money very fast instead of winning. I had my two cards, and everythime I had to call all the way to the river. If I didn't hit.... I fold after river! Even if I hit.. my cards was not good enough. Calling everything with anything. It is an easy way to lose money! Ok, sometimes I was lucky enough to win some. My winnings was not big enough to be a profit after all my lost.
Nice guyOne time I was playing at one of those tables with higher stakes. I was calling everything and of course lost.. When the guys were raising I didn't believe them.... I called of course. Hey, I might could have won with my pair of 6? right? hehe... or I could maybe hit my straight. There was one good thing maybe, I didn't play my flush cards. hehe... never.. always folded. heh.. Anyway, when I was sitting at the table I was calling, chasing and losing. One guy called me for chaser.... true! hehe... There was another guy who started to check to the river. Later he told me that curiosity kills... and everytime I sat in at his table he stop raising and so on. He was just saying: oh, it's you! What the did he mean by that? Really, I didn't get it....
Some month laterThe more I was playing the more experience I did get. I started to understand why I was losing so much money and also realize what this guy meant when he told me that curiosity kills. I started to fold more... I folded more starting hand, and I was not chasing that much. As they say, you can learn how to play poker in 5 min, but it takes years to practice. (I am only at my first year... come back to me in 5 years, and I take my money back for sure. lol...). Well, as I said... I folded more, and chased less... ok, I was still chasing alot but not everything. I notice that I was not losing as much as I use to do. I could even be up for some days. YEY!
ControllNow I have started to get controll on my bankroll, thanks to this guy who told me that curiosity kills. Chase less and fold more meant for me, save money instead. You can't be rich on only folding and less chasing, sometimes you have to go for it of course. With both patience and time you can get your lost money, or just get more money into your stack. Last week Shady shared some of his wisdom to me... never chase. I tryed that.... hmm.... I don't know! I think a mix up will be best for me. I think everyone need to have their own playing style to get money. I know that mine is known for crazy fritzplay, and it actually works for me on my other site. On BetMost I have to find another playing style because my style does not work here that well. hehe...
River and turnWell, many times before I have heard words like: don't believe?... or... no respect for raises? hehe.. Yes! I believe most of the times and also know, but maybe I can get a better hand on turn or river. That is not always true, that is one of the reasons why my money was running out of my bankroll. It is hard to respect raises when there are many bluffers around the tables. By calling a bluffer to the river is fun,.... when winning. Many times it cost a lot... because they actually have something, and the money rolling over to the other side of the table. It is easy to chase or make fishy moves when you are tired. Instead of waiting for your hand with patience you are calling all the way to the river if you don't see that the other guy has the winning hand. Many times, you just don't trust the other guy and just have to see what he or she has. Well, it is not wrong to call all the way, if you want the info.
SummaryWith this we can say that curiosty will kill you if you are chasing to much and if you don't trust your opponent when he is raising or go all in. Of course he/she can be a bluffer, but in cash game it might be better to wait for your hand to catch this guy. We can save money and stop the outflow of money by not chasing that much, for examplay crazy flushes or small straights... Sure we can win big if you hit, but probably lose more than we win. Of course there are good and bad days. Luck is not eternal.... My experience is that poker players are not playing only for today but also for tomorrow. Many good players are letting many pots go instead of fight for someting they maybe lose. When they really have it... they win. Because of they are not losing that much, their bankrolls is growing instead. What I am trying to say is, in poker you can save more money if you are less curious. Curiosity kills in poker! Am I wrong?
