Bounty hunting
Today I have spending my day to play bounty tournies and sngs. I have found out that there are 2 ways of playing those. First, as normal MTT strategy, thinking about positions, waiting for good cards to arrive... play safe if I may say. The second one is to risk a little more, play less good hands, maybe out of positions when you do the raises... more crazy play as a normal poker player would say maybe. In bounty you don't need to be the best player... but there are some strategies anyway.
In a normal tourney you would not like to have a bounty hunter at the table, well I don't. Ok, there are good bounty hunters who plays normally in normally tournies, and there are bounty hunters which are more like donkeys. Just crazy, and I prefer not to have them at the table at all. It can mean free chips, but still, if they are lucky your good cards will be crushed and you are out. It is the bitter truth! The good thing with my other site is that everyone who plays in bounty tournament or sng often has a accolade by their name.. they are marked. It is easy to see which one who are a bounty hunter. If you have a bounty hunter at the table or in the pot you might need to change your strategy. Those players are dangerous, they can really steal the pot from you.... especially if you don't like to risk anything just yet.
As I said, there are 2 ways to play those tournies and sngs - wait for good cards or take some risk. You can always sit and wait for top hands to arrive, but in the end they might take you out anyway, becasue they will probably crush your good cards. These are the players who turns the normally tournament upside down, and makes you very angry in the end. These guys will probably not respect your raises with AA or AK or what ever you have on the hand. They will probably suck you out in the end.
If you want to play a bounty tourney or sng there are some good things to think about:
1. It is almost the same as playing low stake cash table. Chasers, pushers and all iners..... be prepared. There are no rules! Best whole hand wins in the end..
2. Limp in in late position. The game can be peaceful till someone is out... and there is a chipleader at the table.
3. Try not to call raised pre-flop, with KQ, QJ suited... you don't want to be drawing or kicked out with 2 pair.
4. You need to gamble little more....
5. Raise a little, maybe 3xBB in middle position, with hands like 98s and low pairs. Cards you can fold easily if you not hit.
6. Don't care that much if you are beaten when you have a good hand, because it is going to happen, many fishes and donkeys. Just count with it... it makes everything easier.
7. If some short stack is all in, there will be 2 callers...it will be no checking down! It will be another all in or a big rasie. We want the bounty... and hoping that our hand is better.
8. Try to keep your stack in the middle at least. You don't want to have the smallest stack.
9. There will be a lot pushing and isolating....
Now you might be prepared for some bounty!
Right, I forgot...
If you prefer to wait for your good hands to arrive, you might get some money in the end, but if you gamble a little you can have the buy in back by taking out a player.. and you might get more money by knocking more players out. It is up to you how you will do... collect money on the way to the final table or the money spot or just getting money from the money spot or final table. If you choose to wait you have to be aware about that you might have 2 or 3 callers when you need to go all in to double up your stack, if you are a shorty. In a bounty tourney it might be better to loose up the rules about starting hands. Bounty tournies goes a bit faster than normally tournies because bounty hunters want money for everyone they can knock out.
One player = X $
Two player = 2X $
etc.... lets knock out players. It is our goal... including final table or the money spot.
