Being a new player, poker reminds me of the story of an elephant and four blind guys. They were asked what an elepahnt looked like...everyone had a different picture of an elephant in their minds depending upon what body part of elepahnt they touched. One guy thought it was like a huge round pole...since he felt his leg...and another thought he was really flexible like a huge snake since he felt his trunk and so on....

Being an engineering graduate, learning the math behind poker was relatively easy for me. But that is just the tip of the iceberg!...unfortunately, you realise it only when you play and go broke at least a couple of times...:)

There are thousands of books written on how to play poker, which limits to play with a certain benkroll etc. But there is not a single poker player who can boast of never going bankrupt! Amazing isnt it? Its like all the pilots at a flying school learning to fly only after crashing the plane a couple of times!

And this is the beauty of this game. It tests you on various levels. I have  read a lot about  various strategies,  the odds, the probability and what have you...but the most difficult thing for me has been to know when to move to the higher limits. How many of you have felt that when the going is good, no limit is high enough? Everytime you have a pocket pair you flop a set, you hit the tpo pair all the time and the game seems so damn easy!.....All the math learnt goes out of the window and the fact that you make a set only one in 8 times seems some silly thery you read in a book!

I have gone broke twice till date in my young 6 month old poker career.....and this is the tip I want to give all the new players out there. Play within your limits! You can learn all the theory, all the math and all the gameplans in the books but this is one thing you HAVE to learn on your own...and more often than not..the hard way!

So guys....if you are playing at a level with less than 300BB in the bankroll, you will be writing a blog like me in a few days instead of playing some poker!..:))
